Summer is the right time to enjoy outdoor with fun. But be careful, there is also some certain diseases that can attack you during summer -- and one of them is Lyme disease. It is usually spread by the infected ticks. There are some options to treat this disease and here are some Lymes disease treatments and prevention tips!
You may also be interested to read about symptoms of Lyme disease in human -- before continuing to learn more the currently treatments of this disease!
What you should do to prevent Lyme disease?
When it comes to the prevention of Lyme disease, there is no better idea than by protecting yourself from a bite of an infected tick. Once you have a tick bite, you have a chance of having the disease. Fortunately, many people who get a bite tick don’t experience Lyme disease, because this disease is only spread by the infected ticks -- as mentioned before!
The population of ticks that can spread this disease is usually drastically increasing in the summer. When you want to go to grassy/wooded areas, do some helpful tips below to minimize your risk of a tick bite:
  1. Cover your skin with the right lotion (like DEET or talk with your doctor to find the right product for your skin).
  2. Wear or use also other accessories to protect your skin from a tick bite, such as long pants, long-sleeved shirt, and hat.
  3. You can also consider the light-colored clothes in order to notice more easily if there is a tick that attach on your cloth.
  4. Keep remember that an infected tick also can attack your pets (like dog), so check also your dog for any tick after your dog has been outside! Your pets will not spread Lyme disease to your body, but they may bring infected ticks into the inside of your home or room. Furthermore, Lyme disease cannot be spread by an infected individual to other individuals -- it is not contagious!

Treatments of Lyme disease in humans
The treatments that you need when you have Lyme disease are closely dependent to the stage of the disease that you have. But generally, the main treatment of this disease is antibiotics -- such as amoxicillin and doxycycline! To keep safe, all medications to treat Lyme disease should be prescribed by a doctor!
The treatment that will be given by a doctor should be effective enough to eliminate/minimize the infection and prevent other complications of the disease, such as problems associated with nervous system, heart, joints, and skin.
In early stage of Lyme disease, doctor usually will prescribe antibiotics. For younger children, adults, and women with breast-feeding -- cefuroxime or amoxicillin is common choice. And for kids (over 8 of the age) and adults -- doxycycline is one of common choices.
The antibiotic is usually prescribed for oral option, but sometimes it also can be prescribed in injection-option or intravenous -- depending on the symptoms & stage of Lyme disease. Intravenous or oral antibiotics may also be prescribed by doctors to cure the severe symptoms of late Lyme disease.
Intravenous (IV) antibiotics is also one of common choices for late Lyme disease when the patient experience neck pain, problems associated with memory, numbness/weakness in the legs/arms, and headaches.
In addition, sometimes a therapy is also needed to improve/regain the mental abilities of patient for case when Lyme disease has affected problems associated with thinking, concentration, or memory.
What else you should know for your Lyme diseases treatment?
  1. For Lyme disease that recurs /often recurs (a condition that also familiar called as ‘chronic Lyme arthritis’), doctors usually recommend oral antibiotics for initial treatment. But if it doesn’t work effectively, doctors may try with IV-antibiotics.
  2. As mentioned before, there are some types of antibiotics. And the right one that will be prescribed by your doctor and how long you should take it is dependent to the symptoms & stage of your Lyme disease.
  3. You may want to use aspirin (nonprescription option) for your home remedies, but much better to consult first with a doctor in order to keep safe! Furthermore, aspirin is not allowed for anyone who are younger than 20 of the age, because it has been associated in causing Reye syndrome!
  4. One of common symptoms is Lyme disease rash! It can make you become uncomfortable -- but it usually also doesn’t need special treatment. It usually will begin to clear up after the right prescribed antibiotic begins to work effectively to rid off the infection.
  5. And how about with surgery? Is there any case of Lyme disease that needs surgery for the treatment? Well, surgical treatment is not common option to treat Lyme disease. But it may be required to remove/treat the lining of the affected joints which usually occurs in a few cases of chronic Lyme arthritis!
  6. Additionally, what are factors that can make the symptoms/signs of Lyme disease take longer to improve? There are some possible factors which may include: the symptom itself (some symptoms may take longer to improve), severe condition of nerve/tissue damage, at the same time you have other health conditions that make your treatment don’t work successfully, or even the wrong diagnosis (you may not have Lyme disease, and your symptoms may be caused by other health conditions).

Whooping Cough Treatment | Home Remedies

To contact us Click HERE
In many cases, whooping cough is often marked/characterized by’ a severe hacking cough’ which usually also followed by ‘whoop’ (a high-pitched of sound from the intake of breath). Several years ago, this disease was often considered/referred as a childhood disease (before the vaccine was discovered). But today, it is more common in individuals who over 11 of the age (adolescents & adults) and younger children who haven’t received vaccination. What else you need to know, particularly about whooping cough treatment and home remedies?
Fortunately, the prognosis of whooping cough in older children and adults are relatively very good. The death rate for whooping cough in adults is very low, but this chance is high if it occurs in infants (less than 1 year of age). This is the reason why individuals (including pregnant women) who get a close contact/interaction with an infant must be vaccinated.

Furthermore, this disease is also often associated with pneumonia (a kind of inflammation in the lungs) which can be so serious if occurs in very young kids and elderly people (over 60 of the age).
Other complications may include: apnea, bleeding in the brain or other problems in the brain (like brain damage due to poor of O2), infections in the ear, seizure disorder, mental retardation, bleeding in the nose, and convulsions.
What is the whooping cough?
Whooping cough is also familiar known as ‘pertussis’. It can lead to violent & uncontrollable coughing which then usually cause difficulty to breathe. The disease is caused by bacterial what we call as ‘Bordetella parapertussis’ - a contagious bacterial (that’s why this disease is contagious).
When patient coughs/sneezes, tiny droplets that have/contain the bacteria will move through the air and then create a chance of spreading from person to person. And as mentioned before, vaccines are now available to lower the risk of having this disease.
Who is at high risk?
Anyone can get the infection of bordetella parapertussis. Fortunately, pertussis vaccines are now available, and they can help anyone to protect their body better from the chance of developing whooping cough. Nevertheless, according to CDC -- the vaccine is so helpful to minimize your risk, but it doesn’t completely rid of your risk of having this disease.
However pertussis is very contagious, and there is still a chance for anyone who has received fully-vaccine to have whooping cough, particularly for those who live in community where this disease is still circulating.
Moreover, the vaccine that you get in your childhood will decrease over time. That’s why CDC also recommends getting revaccination for adults, teens, and preteens. Talk more with the right authorities for more in-depth information, such as a local health department, most pharmacies, clinics, or your doctor /healthcare provider.
In addition, generally there are 2 currently types of pertussis vaccines (according to a published article on www.doh.wa.gov):
  1. “Diphtheria, Tetanus, acellular Pertussis” vaccines (or often called as ‘DTaP’). They are usually used for children who under 7 of the age.
  2. “Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis” vaccines (or often known as ‘Tdap’). This type is usually purposed for individuals who over 11 of the age and children aged 7-10 years of old who still don’t get a fully-vaccination against pertussis.
Whooping cough treatment
Once you get whooping cough, you may also experience it for the second time. In other words, this disease can occur for more than one time in one individual. Therefore, once again it is so important for your body to receive fully-vaccination.
Luckily, with good care -- many individuals who have whooping cough can successfully recover from the disease with no problems. Generally, the infection of whooping cough usually lasts about 6 weeks on average.
The goals of the whooping cough treatment are intended to treat the symptoms and restrict the infection to spread!
Antibiotics are one of the most important parts of the treatment, since the cause of pertussis is bacteria, and they usually can work most effectively to treat whooping cough at the early stage! But unfortunately the diagnosis of this disease is usually often late, because some whooping cough symptoms at early stage are the same as the common cold symptoms.
Furthermore, antibiotics are common choice to eliminate the spread of infection while a patient is waiting for ‘culture or PCR result’ to confirm her/his diagnosis. And family members are usually also considered to take preventive antibiotics to protect them from the infection.
What else you should know about the treatment of whooping cough?
At severe stage, an infected individual may also experience the deflection of O2 in her/his blood. For this case, patient needs an assistance of oxygen supply for a short time which usually can be done through O2-mask or nasal cannula.
For adults and older children -- they are usually allowed for home remedies. In other words, their whooping cough symptoms can be treated /managed at home without needing to stay at hospital.
On the other hand, for infants are typically hospitalized (particularly for those who are younger than four months) -- this is important to make sure that health professionals can keep monitoring better for the nutrient of the baby and the progress of whooping cough symptoms!
If you have choice to treat your whooping cough (pertussis) at home, the following are some common helpful tips (home remedies) to help your treatment:
  1. Remember that your whooping cough can transmit to others! Therefore prevent the transmission as well! Use a mask if you need to interact with your family members or other people. Wash your hands more often, and don’t forget to cover your cough!
  2. You can consider a warm bath or shower to help ease breathing & clear your lungs. Your doctor may also recommend vaporizing your room.
  3. Choose frequent small meals instead of large ones! Eating in smaller portions may help reduce the chance of vomiting after coughing.
  4. Avoid any factors that can trigger you to cough or sneeze, such as by keeping clean the air in your room.
  5. Keep hydrated by drinking adequate water /day! You can also choose soups or juice to keep you hydrated. If you have a child with this disease, some symptoms of dehydration in children may include infrequent urination, when they are crying they don’t have tears, and dry lips.
  6. Don’t forget to get adequate rest!
  7. And follow completely all instructions from your doctor!

Signs of Whooping cough in Adults and Babies (Young Children)

To contact us Click HERE
Pertussis or whooping cough is a kind of contagious bacterial infection that can lead to very serious health conditions for elderly people (over 60 years of old) and infants or young children (less than 1 year). In the early stage of the disease, the symptoms that occur are difficult to distinguish with the symptoms of common cold. That’s why this disease is not easy to be diagnosed at the early stage. So, what are signs of whooping cough in babies (young children) and older children /adults?
How is whooping cough transmitted?
This disease is contagious which can easily spread from person to person. Bacteria (Bordetella pertussis) that cause pertussis can spread to other individuals when an infected individual is coughing or sneezing.

Therefore, patient with this disease should cover her/his mouth when coughing/sneezing. Furthermore, patients should use a mask when they need to interact to other people for better result in eliminating the bacteria to spread.
Prognosis!
In many cases, people with this disease can get a full recovery without any problems, particularly if it occurs in adults & older children. On the other hand, whooping cough can be very serious or even can lead to potentially life threatening if it occurs in infants/babies and elderly people.
The disease can take about 6-8 weeks on average, or sometimes it may be longer. Once you get whooping cough, you may still have a chance of experiencing it for the second time or even more. Therefore, once recovered -- patients are usually considered to get the right fully vaccination!
Additionally, antibiotics are one of common choices to treat pertussis, especially can work most effectively in treating this disease at early stage. Read also whooping cough treatment!
Whooping cough in older children and adults
Several years ago, the disease is pretty common in childhood. But since the vaccine discovered, today it may be more common in older children (over 11 of the age) and adults.
According to CDC, reported cases of this disease vary for every year and more likely to reach the peak level for every 5-3 years. The number of pertussis cases increase since 1980s. In 2010, there were about 27,550 cases of whooping cough and 27 deaths were reported in the U.S.
Fortunately, the whooping-cough symptoms and how long does it take are relatively milder and faster in older children or adults. But both issues are usually related whether patients had the appropriately vaccines & how long ago these vaccines were!
Whooping cough in babies /infants
As mentioned before, this disease can be so dangerous if it occurs in babies (younger than the age of 1 year). This age group is more susceptible to also experience other serious complications, such as; convulsions, problems associated with the brain (mostly due to lack of O2), and pneumonia.
According to CDC -- whooping cough caused 27 deaths reported in 2010, and most of them were infants or younger children (less than 1 year). Therefore if your baby has some symptoms of this disease, don’t choose ‘watchful waiting’ -- you need to see your doctor immediately!
Whooping cough symptoms (signs)
How long the signs or symptoms will last varies from person to person. Generally (as written before), they can last for about 8-6 weeks or may be longer! For younger children, the symptoms usually will last longer and followed with 3 stages of whooping cough symptoms. And for adults or older children, they are more likely to don’t experience the same stages.
#Stage I
This is the early stage of whooping cough, and usually we can be difficult to distinguish it from common cold. Because the signs that occur are more likely to be similar as the common symptoms of cold -- and once you get the infection, you can begin spread your infection to others.
  1. Patient usually experience mild cough, watery eyes, runny nose, sneezing, or may also be followed with fever (in mild level).
  2. These signs usually will last for several days or a couple of weeks.
#Stage II
In the stage the cold signs usually get preferable, but then other whooping cough symptoms (like cough) get worse which usually will last about 2-4 weeks or more.
  1. The cough symptoms usually begin from hacking cough, dry & mild -- and then become an uncontrollable severe cough.
  2. Sometimes, the cough can make patient be difficult to take a breath because he/she may cough so long. This cough is usually followed by a whooping noise when patient taking a breath of air. This noise is one of clearly pertussis signs, and the main reason why the disease is called as ‘whooping cough’!
  3. Patient may also experience vomiting after a coughing fit.
#Stage III
  1. Patient may begin experience off/on coughing fit which can last several weeks. It may begin to be louder than before and usually may flare up if patient experience cold or another similar illness.
  2. In the beginning and end of this stage, patient usually gets stronger & better. For infected individuals who haven’t received the fully vaccine, this stage may occur longer.
Note; don’t get directly to your conclusion about the symptoms that you have or occur in your children. If you in doubt, see & talk with your doctor immediately to get more advices and detailed information!

Sleep Apnea Treatment Options | Remedies | Symptoms

To contact us Click HERE
One of popular sleep disorders in these days is sleep apnea. It is a kind of sleep disorder characterized by repeatedly cycles ‘stops & starts’ of breathing during sleep, which then can contribute to the low quality for the rest of the brain & body during sleep. People with this disorder tend to have bad quality of sleep which then also may affect their daily life. Can this disorder be cured? What are the symptoms? Are there many sleep apnea treatment options? What else you need to know? Keep reading!
In people with this disorder, the breathing pauses can last about 20-10 seconds. These breathing pauses can occur tens or hundreds of times a night. That’s why this condition may interrupt to the mechanism of the brain and body to get adequate O2 (Oxygen) during sleep.
Sleep apnea types and causes
Generally, this sleep disorder is categorized into 2 major categories;
  1. Central sleep apnea (less common). For this type, the failure of the brain to send the signal to control the mechanism of breathing is usually the major cause! In other words, the breathing pauses during sleep for this type involve the central nervous and there are no blocked-airways. Individuals with this type seldom snore!
  2. OSA (Obstructive Sleep Apnea) -- this type is more common than the first type. Unlike central sleep apnea, as the name implies this type is usually caused by the blocked-airways which usually occur when the muscles of throat relax. In many cases, these blocked-airways are also followed the noise such as ‘loud snoring’!
And there are also some cases in people with sleep apnea that have the combination of both types (also familiar known as ‘complex sleep apnea’).

Unfortunately, many people with sleep apnea often think that they can sleep well at night. They also may not be aware that the quality of their sleep was interrupted.
Common sleep apnea symptoms in men and women
There is no significant difference for the symptoms or signs of sleep apnea in men and women. Some common symptoms may include:
  1. Having a lot of cycles of breathing cessation /breathing pauses during sleep.
  2. Uncomfortable awakening followed by shortness of breath. This is usually more common in central sleep apnea.
  3. Unfriendly loud snoring (more common in people with OSA).
  4. Experience insomnia, or difficulties staying sleep.
  5. Experience sore throat or dry mouth or gasping sensation, especially after awakening from sleep.
  6. Patient may also experience a morning headache.
  7. Hypersomnia. It is a kind of disorder characterized by a condition when the body has trouble to keep awake during the day (excessive sleepiness). People with hypersomnia can be easy to fall asleep at any time, even when they should not be intended to sleep, like driving.
  8. The bad quality of sleep in people with sleep apnea will generate other problems, like lack of energy in doing their daily activities, mood changes (depression particularly in women), difficulty to have good concentration, and even decreased libido in sex.
Note; it is so important to find the right sleep apnea treatment so thus this disorder can be treated as soon as possible. If left untreated, this disorder can also generate other health problems, such as; depression, health problems associated with the performance of the heart, high blood pressure, worsening of ADHD and stroke.
Symptoms of sleep apnea in children
Unlike in adults, sleep apnea in children is usually more difficult to be recognized. Some common symptoms in adult may also occur in children. Other common symptoms may include:
  1. Children may use strange positions of sleep.
  2. Loud snoring, especially for kids who have OSA.
  3. Sometimes children with sleep apnea may also experience excessively perspiration during sleep.
  4. Suffer from bedwetting.
  5. Then these uncomfortable symptoms may also affect their daytime behavior (like using mouth to breath instead of nose, decreased performance in their school environment (difficult to have good concentration), inattention /hyperactivity, mood changes (irritability or hostile behavior), problems associated with growth/developmental, etc).
Note; talk and discuss more with a pediatrician if you in doubt to the condition of your children!
Factors that can put someone at higher risk of having sleep apnea
Before discussing more about sleep apnea treatment options, you may also be interested to know some risk factors of this disorder (factors or conditions that increase your risk of having sleep apnea).
Risk factors of central sleep apnea:
  1. Gender! Female is less likely to have this disorder than men.
  2. People with certain health conditions, particularly such as stroke and heart disorders.
  3. And elderly people, particularly for those who are over the age of 65.
Risk factors of OSA may include:
  1. Prolonged sitting! The fluid in the body can shift from legs due to long periods of daytime sitting -- according to some studies. And this condition may cause narrowing of airways passages which then can raise the risk of developing OSA.
  2. Use of some substances (such as; tranquilizers, sedatives, or alcohol) also can affect the performance of the throat’s muscles.
  3. Elderly people (being older).
  4. Family history! If you have a family history of OSA, you may have higher risk of having the same condition!
  5. Gender -- men are more likely to develop OSA than women. But in women, the risk of sleep apnea usually increase when they are being overweight and after menopause period.
  6. People with hypertension (high blood pressure problem).
  7. Sleep apnea and weight gain! Being overweight can contribute to result the excess fat around the upper airways which then may affect on how you to breath. But this doesn’t mean that thin people are free from the risk of having sleep apnea. There are also some thin people that experience this sleep disorder!
  8. Bad habits, particularly like cigarette smoking. The risk of OSA is higher (3 times) in smokers than in non-smokers. Because cigarette smoking may contribute in increasing the amount of fluid retention & inflammation in the upper airways!
  9. Other problems that affect the mechanism of airways! A narrowed airway can be inherited. Moreover, a blocked airway also can be caused by enlarged adenoids or tonsils. And neck circumference (especially for greater than 43 cm /17 inches) is also often associated with sleep apnea, because this condition may also narrow the airway.
Risk factors of complex sleep apnea
Some risk factors of OSA also can contribute in causing complex sleep apnea. And in many cases, complex sleep apnea is relatively more common in people with heart problems.
Diagnosis - how to diagnose sleep apnea?
If you experience some symptoms of this disorder, don’t get a conclusion on your own -- see a doctor for more advices and clearly diagnosis! You usually will be asked by your doctor to take some sleep apnea tests.
One of common tests is polysomnogram -- a kind of multiple component test ‘sleep study’ to completely record some physical activities during sleep. Then the test-result will be analyzed by qualified /registered sleep specialist which then eventually will be used to confirm whether or not someone has certain sleep disorder (such as; sleep apnea).
Other common tests to make a sleep apnea diagnosis may include:
  1. A test to analyze snoring activity or familiar called as snore microphone test.
  2. A test to analyze the performance of ‘heart rhythm & rate’ or familiar called as ECG (electrocardiogram) test.
  3. Electromyogram (EMG)! This test is usually purposed to record and analyze the muscle activity.
  4. Test that is purposed to record and analyze the airflow, like ‘nasal airflow sensor’.
  5. Electro-oculogram (EOG) ‘for analyzing the eye movements’ and electroencephalogram (EEG) ‘for recording the wave activity in the brain’. EEG also can be used to measure the brain wave activity!
Sleep apnea treatments
Can sleep apnea be cured? The success rate of sleep apnea treatment is usually dependent on the condition or level of the disease itself. Generally, sleep apnea can be cured with the right treatment. But there is also a chance for someone who had sleep apnea to experience this sleep disorder for the second time.
The sleep apnea solutions /treatments are available from conservative options (such as; changes in sleep position, or healthy diet to lose excess weight if patient is being overweight) to advance solutions (like surgery).
Sleep apnea remedies with lifestyle changes
In mild case, conservative options may be helpful enough to treat sleep apnea. The following are some these options:
  1. As mentioned before, being overweight can put you at higher risk of having sleep apnea. Get back your healthy weight by losing your excess weight. Discuss more with your health-care provider to determine the right course of action for your weight loss.
  2. If you are smoker, you need to stop smoking immediately!
  3. Doctors usually also ask you to avoid using sleeping pills and alcohol.
  4. You may also be asked to use a saline nasal spray in order to keep open your nasal passages during sleep at night.
  5. Changes in sleep positions! Your doctor usually recommends choosing the right positions of sleep, such as; avoid sleeping on your back -- doctor usually ask you to sleep on your side! Talk with your doctor for more detailed information!
Sleep apnea treatment with therapies
  1. CPAP (Continuous positive airway pressure)! It is a kind of treatment that uses a mask in worn over the mouth /or nose during sleep. This mask is usually hooked up to a proper machine designed to deliver/transfer a continuous flow of air into the patient’s nostrils, which then will be helpful to keep the airways open and the mechanism of breathing during sleep is not impaired. In many cases, patients usually need to try more than one mask to find and use one that is most comfortable.
  2. If patient still doesn’t find the right comfortable one of mask in CPAP. Doctor may recommend a special dental device that designed by professional dentist with special expertise in order to keep the airway open when patient sleep. Another choice may be a kind of adjustable airway pressure device, like a special device to supply BPAP (bilevel positive airway pressure). Ask to your doctor for more in-depth information!
  3. And there is also another option to keep the throat open by wearing/using an oral appliance. Oral appliances are relatively easier for patient to use. But many doctors believe that oral appliances are less effective than CPAP.
Sleep apnea treatment with surgery
In some conditions, surgery is needed to treat sleep apnea. The goal of this option is often purposed to remove the excess tissue from throat /or nose that usually contribute in causing patient to snore. Surgery is usually also needed if patient has markedly enlarged-tonsils or a deviated nasal septum. The following are some common surgical options:
  1. UPP (Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty)! The goal of this surgery is usually purposed to increase the width of the airway. Therefore the excess soft tissue on the back of palate and throat will be removed in this surgery!
  2. A surgery to correct/treat the throat obstructions or facial abnormalities, such a common surgery that we call as ‘Mandibular maxillar surgery’.
  3. A surgery to correct deviated septum (nasal obstruction) that contribute to sleep apnea.
  4. And tracheostomy surgery for patients who are considered into life-threatening sleep apnea or if other treatments have failed!
In addition, there are also available other treatment options like injection snoreplasty, somnoplasty, and pillar-palatal implant -- these options are often called as minimally invasive procedures. They can be effective to treat snoring, but for long-term effectiveness in treating sleep apnea is still not confirmed.

How to Stop Snoring | Naturally Home Remedies | Mouthpiece

To contact us Click HERE
How to stop snoring? Well… we all agree that snoring is one of the most common unfriendly problems during sleep, particularly for your partner lol. Even sometimes it can lead to real problems in a marriage, such as separating bedroom with your partner. It is a kind of harsh or hoarse sound when breathing during sleep.
Another bad news is sometimes snoring also can be an indication of serious sleep disorder (like sleep apnea, particularly OSA “Obstructive Sleep Apnea” (about 75 percent of people with snoring experience OSA)) which then may generate other serious health problems. And in fact, there is about half adults experience snoring while sleeping -- at least occasionally!
The snoring treatments are available from conservative ways (such as; changes in sleep positions, avoid having unhealthy weight (obesity), avoid drinking alcohol before going to bed, etc) to advance options (such as; involving medical devices or even surgery if necessary). For mild case, some changes in lifestyle, home remedies or natural options may be effective enough.
Risk factors
The following are some factors or conditions that can put someone at higher risk of developing snoring:
  1. If you have nasal problem, you may also have higher chance of experiencing snoring. The nasal problem (like deviated septum and nasal polyps) can has a significant contribution to cause an airways structural defect.
  2. Some conditions that cause a narrow airways, such as long-soft palate, large adenoids or tonsils.
  3. Gender! In fact, women are less likely to snore if compared with men. But women with jaw abnormalities (like overbite (the bottom jaw & teeth are overlapped by the upper jaw & teeth) or a small chin) also can have higher risk of having snoring.
  4. Age, especially for middle-aged individuals! A study found that the risk of snoring in men will drastically increase at the age of 50-60 and then decreases!
  5. Chronic nasal congestion! The cause of this condition is usually allergies or colds.
  6. And other risk factors may include; using sedative medicines, drinking alcohol, cigarette smoking (even excessively exposing kids/children to tobacco smoke may also increase their risk), having not-ideal weight (being overweight), and family history (snoring may also run in a family)!
Causes of snoring in adults (men and women) and kids
Generally, the physically obstruction in the flow of air through the mouth is the key that can lead to snoring! And the following combination factors can cause this air-flow obstruction:
  1. Long uvula (tissue in the back of our mouth) or long soft palate! This condition can give a significant contribution to narrow the opening from the throat to the nose. And the vibration of these structures can obstruct the airway.
  2. The weakness performance of muscle in the tongue and throat. This poor muscle tone can lead to very relaxed-condition, which eventually also can obstruct the airway! Some bad habits such as the consumption of sleeping pills, the excessively consumption of alcohol, and even deep sleep may have contribution to cause this poor muscle tone.
  3. Bulky/thick throat tissue! In many cases, this condition is usually generated by being overweight.
  4. The obstruction in the nasal airways! In fact, there are also some individuals who snore only in a certain condition (such as when they experience sinus infection or during allergy season)!
And in children, they really should not experience snoring! Sometimes occasional allergy or cold can lead to congestion in kids which then eventually may create a stuffy nose and snoring.
However, you should see and consult with your doctor promptly if you find that your children have habit of snoring when they sleep! Like in adult, some studies found that kids with snoring also have higher risk of developing certain sleep disorder, particularly like sleep apnea.
Some factors /causes of snoring in adult may also be the cause of snoring in kids, but large adenoids and tonsils are usually the most common causes in many cases!

So, how to stop snoring effectively?
Diagnosis
As mentioned before, individuals who snore have higher risk of developing obstructive sleep apnea. And in many cases, diagnosis (exams & tests) in people with snoring is usually more focused to get clearly answer whether or not they will experience sleep apnea (read also self-care treatments for sleep apnea!).
Doctors usually will ask about the medical history of patient, and do some physical exams in making a diagnosis. But sometimes these steps are not enough and therefore patient is also often considered to take a sleep study to explore more the rate of developing sleep apnea.
When you should call a doctor?

Some people may choose ‘watchful waiting’ instead of seeing doctor immediately! This option may be acceptable if you don’t feel sleepy during the day or your snoring doesn’t disturb your bed-partner. You need to see a doctor promptly if:
  1. Your bed-partner complains to your heavily (loudly) snoring!
  2. You choose home remedies, but these ways fail to stop your snoring!
  3. You are very sleepy during the day, which can be an indication that your snoring has disturbed the quality of your sleep!
  4. You experience some sleep apnea symptoms!
Home remedies for snoring (lifestyle changes)
In several cases, changes in lifestyles can be effective enough to stop snoring -- especially for mild cases! Some common home remedies or lifestyle changes in treating snoring may include:
  1. It is much better to avoid sedatives without recommendation from your doctor. Drinking alcohol also should be avoided! Drinking alcohol before going to bed may help you to get sleepy but doesn’t work well to promote good quality of sleep. Even drinking alcohol (especially in excessively consumption) can increase your risk of having poor muscle tone which then will cause snoring.
  2. You can try with nasal strips! Though they are not too effective for people with sleep apnea, but may be effective enough to stop snoring (depending on the cause of your snoring)! Nasal strips can be helpful for you to promote good breathing during sleep.
  3. If you have a deviated septum or allergies, you tend to use your mouth to breathe during sleep, which then can increase your chance of snoring during sleep. Don’t choose to use a spray or oral decongestant without a doctor’s recommendation -- particularly for more than 3 days! In several cases, long-term use of these options can make your congestion worse.
  4. Changes in the position during sleep! To stop snoring, many doctors usually recommend choosing ‘sleep on your side’ instead of ‘sleep on your back’. And fortunately, there are also special pillows that can help you to keep comfortable when sleeping on your side. Furthermore, having bed with slightly higher in the one side (the position of your head) may also be helpful enough. You can use bricks and put them in the legs of your bed to raise the height of one side of your bed. But using more pillows to raise your upper body or head during sleep will not work!
  5. Don’t smoke (avoid cigarette smoking)! As written before, cigarette smoking is one of risk factors of snoring.
  6. If you are being overweight, get back your healthy weight! Read also how to lose weight safely!
  7. Schedule or organize the cycle of your sleep as well! Go into your bedroom and bed at the same time for every night! This can help you get adequate rest at night and promote good sleep at night.
  8. If you have stuffy nose or other breathing problems, you need to treat them properly in order to lower your likelihood of snoring. Certain allergies and cold can cause stuffy nose -- talk more with a doctor for more advices on how to effectively treat your stuffy nose!
  9. Take a hot shower before going to bed! This is not only helpful to promote more relaxed atmosphere during sleep but also may help give contribution to open nasal passages.
  10. Stay hydrated! Dehydration during sleep may cause secretions in the soft palate and nose which then put you at higher chance to snore when you sleep. The Institute of Medicine recommends for healthy men should get about 16 cups of total water a day, and about 11 cups for women.
  11. Make sure that there are no allergens in the environment where you sleep (your bedroom) that may cause you to snore during sleep. Check also your pillows and ensure they are free from any allergens or dust mites! You may also be interested to know about dust allergy symptoms.
Anti snoring mouthpieces (oral device)
Mouthpieces are not effective enough to treat sleep apnea and many doctors agree with this statement, but if your goal is only purposed to stop snoring then anti-snoring mouthpieces may be helpful enough for you (especially if the cause of snoring is the jaw position when you sleep)!
In several cases, people with snoring can try more than one anti-snoring mouthpiece to find the most comfortable one. And the following tips may be helpful for you on how to choose anti snoring mouthpiece:
  1. First, always keep remember that the first goal of wearing mouthpiece at bedtime is purposed to keep open your airway during sleep!
  2. Make sure you choose one that fit to the structure of your mouth. Your mouthpiece should not hurt your gums and teeth. Don’t forget also to get to know the size of your mouth and the shape of your jaw before buying an anti snoring mouthpiece!
  3. Furthermore, there are also some adjustable snoring mouthpieces that can be adjusted to meet to the structure of the mouth.
  4. There are some brands of snoring mouthpieces, but don’t be fooled by cheap price! When it comes to your health, the quality is always your priority. To keep safe, you should prioritize brands with FDA-approved! Brand such as Zquiet is not too good idea. There are some reviews on internet that recommend this brand.
  5. However buying an approved vendor/brand of snoring mouthpiece from your dentist is much better. You can consult with a doctor (dentist) for more advices! Or you can also ask to your doctor to custom fit a mouthpiece for better result -- though the cost of this option is relatively expensive than commercially available products!
If you choose to use and wear anti-snoring mouthpieces when you sleep, don’t forget to make an appointment (at least once in 6 months in the first year) with your dental specialist to analyze the progress of your condition. This is also important to find out whether or not any side-effects of using mouthpiece. Follow all instructions from your dental specialist!
Moreover, there are also some common possible side effects /problems that may occur when using a certain device that fit in the mouth during sleep may include:
  1. There is a chance for this device to damage the jaw joints, mouth’s soft tissue, or even teeth. Therefore, it is so important for the device to fit properly.
  2. Discomfort sensation that you may feel in the morning.
  3. There is also a chance for more buildup of saliva during sleep. This can be associated with frequent swallowing problem.
Medications
Medicines such as inhaled corticosteroids and decongestants can help when the nasal congestion is the cause of your snoring. And for inhaled corticosteroids, they are usually prescribed for short-term treatment -- talk with a doctor for more in-depth information!
Note; there are also some stop-snoring pills or aids that are marketed without confirming scientific studies. To keep safe, you should avoid taking any pills or other drugs to stop snoring without the recommendation from your doctor!
Other treatments to stop snoring
For some cases, home remedies (lifestyle changes) and anti-snoring mouthpiece don’t work well in treating snoring. The following are other common treatments:
  1. CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure). This method usually involves a pressurized mask that can be attached over the nose during sleep! This mask is designed with a small pump which then can help keep open the airway. CPAP is also common option to treat sleep apnea, but sometimes can be recommended by a doctor to stop snoring. The drawback of CPAP is the noise from the machine and relatively more difficult to use (if compared with anti-snoring mouthpiece).
  2. Pillar procedure or also familiar known as palatal implants!
Surgery
This option is rarely considered but usually often used only for extremely severe cases or if other treatments don’t work well. And some surgeries in treating snoring may include;
  1. -Surgery that is purposed to implant the plastic cylinders into the patient’s soft palate. This procedure can help stiffen the soft palate from vibrating.
  2. Surgery with laser. There is also a surgery for snoring to remove excess tissue in the throat and shorten the soft palate with a small hand-held laser beam.
  3. A surgery for snoring what we call as ‘uvulopalatopharyngoplasty’ -- this surgery is usually used to remove/reduce excess tissue in the patient’s throat which then eventually will create a better airway for smoother airflow.
  4. For patient with enlarged adenoids & tonsils, surgeries such as adenoidectomy and tonsillectomy can be considered by doctor.
  5.  Radiofrequency palatoplasty! It is a kind surgery for snoring that usually involves electrical mechanism (electrical current) to stiffen & shrink the uvula and soft palate.
  6. Nasal polypectomy and septoplasty are other surgeries for snoring -- discuss more a doctor/specialist for more in-depth information!
Alternative therapies to stop snoring
There are also some therapies that may be helpful or even effective to stop snoring. Some of these therapies are:
  1. Singing! Some experts believe that singing can promote good performance for your muscle to control upper throat and soft palate. Unfortunately, there is still no clearly answer about a specific technique of singing that can work well in treating snoring -- more study is required!
  2. Didgeridoo! Another therapy that may help to stop snoring by training the muscles in the upper airway is playing didgeridoo (a kind of musical instrument that can create/produce a droning sound) -- according to a preliminary research from British Medical Journal in 2006.

Causes and Symptoms of Pancreatic Cancer and its Treatments

To contact us Click HERE
Causes and Symptoms of Pancreatic Cancer

The cause of pancreatic cancer is unknown. Pancreatic cancer is two to three times more common in heavy smokers than non-smokers.

Symptoms
• Poor appetite; weight loss.
• Pain in the upper – central or right abdomen. The pain may spread to the back and may be relieved by sitting up and leaning forward.
• Jaundice.
• Itching skin.
• Nausea and vomiting.
• Diarrhea or constipation, dark – colored urine, or pale stools.
• A feeling of fullness.
• Fatigue, depression, and mood swings.
• Shakiness, irritability, profuse perspiration, chills dizziness, or muscle spasms in patients with an islet cell tumor, due to associated hypoglycemia.

Diagnosis
Chest and abdominal x-rays are performed initially. Ultrasound scans or CT (computed tomography) scans detect about 80 percent of cases. Further tests are performed if diagnosis is questionable. ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatogram) is done using a thin, lighted, viewing tube (endoscope) passed down the throat and into the bile duct, and x-rays are taken. The endoscope may also be used to take a biopsy. Diagnosis is confirmed by biopsy of pancreatic tissue, which is extracted with a needle, or in some cases, using exploratory abdominal surgery.

PREVENTION AND TREATMENT FOR PANCREATIC CANCER
Pancreatic cancer, currently the fifth leading cause of death from cancer in the unite states, is the growth of malignant cells in the pancreas, a pear shaped organ located just below and behind the stomach. The pancreas secretes digestive enzymes into the small intestines via the common bile duct, and islet cells of the pancreas secrete hormones (insulin and glucagons) into the blood. Pancreatic cancer impairs the digestive process and may block the bile duct as it grows. Most cases occur after age 50; men are affected slightly more often than women. A cure is sometimes possible with early diagnosis and surgical removal. However, pancreatic cancer is extremely difficult to diagnose and has usually spread by the time symptoms appear, so cures are uncommon. Islet cell tumors (insulinomas) are much less common. They release excessive amounts of insulin, causing low blood glucose (hypoglycemia). Only about 10 percent of insulinomas are malignant, and the symptoms of hypoglycemia can be eliminated by surgical removal of the tumor.

For a balance view and treatment we have to examine first the conventional way and then the alternative prevention and treatment

Prevention can be implemented if the person minimize exposure to toxic chemicals at home an in the work place, and avoid cigarettes.

The Treatment

• Surgical removal of the tumor is possible with a relatively small tumor that has not yet spread, which may prolong survival time. Surgery may involve removal of the entire pancreas as well as a portion of the small intestine.
• Surgery to bypass a bile duct blocked by the tumor may be performed to relieve symptoms.
• Chemotherapy in combinations with radiation therapy may destroy cancerous cells and ease symptoms.
• Analgesics or narcotics are administered to reduce pain. Antihistamines or amphetamines may be used to enhance analgesic effects. In cases of severe pain, the relevant nerves may be cut or destroyed by an alcohol injection at the time of surgery.
• Tablets containing pancreatic enzymes may be prescribed if food is poorly absorbed because of a blockage of pancreatic secretions.
• Much has been said about conventional prevention and treatment. We will explore now some alternative prevention and treatment. Alternative prevention and cure are increasing and are now gaining respect in the scientific world. These treatments are not only dealing with the effects but are treating the cause. That’s why most of it are all effective if applied properly. All alternative prevention and cure are non invasive and its the highly recommended treatment by almost 15,000 European doctors. Alternative prostate cancer – prevention and cure as provided by the “one minute cure for all diseases” has gain prominence to a lot of people. The claim is so simple to understand; research unveiled that if you deprive a cell 35% of its required levels of oxygen for 48 hours, the cell will become cancerous. Most likely people don't know is that lack of oxygen is not only the underlying cause of cancer but is also the cause of most diseases. When the body is supplied and delivered with abundant and enough amounts of oxygen, no cancer cells, viruses, harmful bacteria, toxins, pathogens and disease microorganisms can survive because they cannot survive in a highly oxygenated bodies.

Leukemia is a form of cancer of blood cells. The main problem was in the bone marrow, this is kind of soft tissue found in most bones. Bone marrow is known as a most flexible tissue where blood cells are made. When human in good and healthy condition the bone marrow will continue produce:
  • White blood cells, that works to help human body fight infection.
  • Red blood cells, that works to carry oxygen to all parts of your body.
  • Platelets, work as the blood clot.

A major reason attributed to leukemia is exposure to high energy radiation. During World War 2 bomb explosions left an indelible mark on the areas exposed.

Leukemia is also clear in the above society as a result of intense exposure to low energy radiation. This may be due to electromagnetic fields, such as power lines and electrical appliances such as electric blankets.

Some toxic chemicals have also been identified can lead to leukemia. These include benzene and formaldehyde. It is also noted that if one is exposed to a number of chemotherapy drugs used to treat other forms of cancer, the probability of contact Leukemia is higher.

Some genetic conditions are also likely to make the development of leukemia. It has been said that cancer is reported in some families. This is due to genetics. Sometimes children who have Down's syndrome conditions have a higher chance of getting leukemia.

Research has not yet been done to the causes of leukemia. From research, women are more susceptible to cancer than women. Some firms have disease linked to supernatural causes. Although science is not about speculation and questions about alcohol, the disease continues to receive attention from researchers and it is likely that the mystery will soon be solved.

The Breast Cancer Prevention Diet, Dr. Bob Arnot has synthesized this research in an eating plan that allows women to fight back. Designed for women, the diet contains important information that will be tailored to your specific needs, including plans for women with high estrogen, which are therefore at a higher risk, postmenopausal women with lower estrogen levels, breast cancer survivors, women with family history and young women want to.

The breast cancer prevention diet is right for important preventive measures, but not secondary prevention rather than detection of tumors in their earliest stages. This suggests that self-examination and mammography is still an important role to remove the risk of dying of breast cancer.

Understanding the Uterine Cancer or Endometrial Cancer

To contact us Click HERE
Uterus is part of a woman's reproductive system. It is a hollow, pear-shaped organ that a baby grows. The location is near to pelvis between the bladder and rectum.

The tight and the cervix are exactly located under the uterus. The wide, middle part of the uterus is the body, or it’s also called corpus.

Commonly in women of childbearing age, lining of the uterus grow and thicken each month to prepare for pregnancy. If a woman is not pregnant, the thick, bloody lining flows out of the body through the vagina. This condition we often called it menstruation.

Uterine CancerUterine Cancer

You have to remember that benign tumors are not cancer. Most doctors can help you to remove it. The benign tumors cells do not spread to other parts of the body. In many cases, the benign tumors do not return after its removal. Most essential, benign tumors are not often a threat to life.

But, some research also report that malignant tumors are cancer. They are commonly more serious and life threatening. Cancer cells can penetrate and damage nearby tissues and the organs. Cancer cells also can break with a malignant tumor and enter the blood or lymphatic system disorders. That is how cancer cells spread from the original (primary) tumor to form new tumors in other organs. And that condition often called as metastasis.

Uterus cancerUterus cancer

When uterine cancer extends (metastasizes) outside the uterus, cancer cells often found in nearby lymph nodes, nerves and blood vessels. If the cancer cell has reached the lymph nodes, then cancer cells has the ability to spread to other lymph nodes and into other organs like lungs, the worse is come to liver and bones.

Endometrium-UterusEndometrium-Uterus

When the cancer cell spreads from its original place to another part of the body, the new tumor has the same type of abnormal cells and the same name as the primary tumor. For illustration, if the cell cancer of the uterus spreads to the lungs, the cancer cells in the lungs are actually uterine cancer cells. The disease is metastatic uterine cancer; please note that is not lung cancer. It is treated as cervical cancer, not lung cancer. Doctors sometimes named the new tumor "distant" disease.

Generally the uterus cancers are usually started from the lining (endometrium). This condition called endometrial cancer, uterine cancer and cancer of the uterus.

Why you need to drink a lot of milk?
That is easy to understand. Milk enriches with calcium, and calcium is the cornerstone of strong bones. Adults younger than 50 should drink 1.000 milligrams per day, and people over 50 need to drink at least 1200 milligrams per day. The great source of calcium is undoubtedly milk. From every 8-ounce cup of milk or skim, low fat, or whole, it contain of 300 milligrams of calcium.

If you have enough calcium from food you eat, taking pill form will not contribute to bone health. Experts say that there is no advantage to more than 1500 mg of calcium per day. Maximizing the absorption of calcium supplements does not take more than 500 mg at once. Most calcium supplements should be taken with food, but calcium citrate and calcium malate always.

Soy Foods
A half cup of tofu contains 258 mg of calcium, Please note that calcium is not the only mineral for bone to leg up. According to recent research suggests plant chemicals called isoflavones increase bone density as well. Isoflavones in soy are many foods that tofu and seems to have an estrogen-like effect on the body. This can be useful in warding off soybeans bone disease in postmenopausal women.

Salmon
Another source of calcium is salmon, this types of fatty fish provides a number of bone-enhancing nutrients. They contain calcium and vitamin D which helps absorption of calcium. They are also high in omega-3 fatty acids. Fish oil addition has been shown to reduce in elderly women and may prevent osteoporosis.

Nuts and Seeds
Nuts and seeds may enhance bone health in different ways. Almonds, pistachios and sunflower seeds are high in calcium. Walnuts and flax seeds are packed with omega-3 fatty acids. Peanuts and almonds contain potassium, which protects against loss of calcium in the urine. Nuts also contain protein and other nutrients that play a supportive role in building strong bones.

Sunshine is also important

Well, the sun is technically not food. But it is the best source of a nutrient found in surprisingly little food. The body produces vitamin D in response to sunlight. Without vitamin D, our body can not absorb calcium. Although milk is often fortified with vitamin D, an 8-ounce cup is usually not sufficient for a maximum absorption of calcium. Doctors recommend taking a vitamin D Appendix if you live in an area where exposure to sunlight is limited.

Do some exercises after age 30 more than an hour per week can help reduce a woman's risk of developing breast cancer, according to a study presented at the American College of Sports Medicine annual meeting in Seattle.

In the study, Lisa brittle at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley and colleagues asked 4296 women to recall their physical activity for four key stages of life: 10 to 15 years, 15 to 30 years old, 30 to 50 years and 50 years and older .

The possibility of developing breast cancer do not seem to change in the performance of the ages between 10 and 30 and women over the age of 30 significantly their chances of developing breast cancer if they are more active, the researchers found.

Woman who exerciseWoman who exercise

"An average amount of exercise was defined as 60 minutes per week," brittle told Reuters Health, "so that all results in less than 60 minutes on average were over 60 minutes on average, and all who regard themselves as" very competitive "chosen that category."

Some women classified themselves as "very competitive" between 30 and 50 developed breast cancer compared with women who are less physically active.

Even fewer women classified themselves as very competitive at the age of 50 years developed breast cancer compared with women who exercised less than 60 minutes per week.

"Provisional" brittle said, "take home message is that accumulation mode increase physical activity after the age of 30 may play a role in reducing the risk of developing breast cancer."

New research suggests a dramatic increase in the number of women diagnosed with early breast cancer in one breast who choose to have both breasts surgically removed.

The share of so-called contra-lateral prophylactic mastectomy 'surgery among American women with early breast cancer called ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) increased by 188 percent between 1998 and 2005, Dr. Todd Tuttle, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, and colleagues found.

Exactly the reason why more and more women choose this treatment is unclear.

"The 10-year survival of women with DCIS is 98 percent to 99 percent," Tuttle notes in a university statement. "It is the abolition of the normal contra-lateral breast cancer will not improve the excellent survival for this group of women. But many women, particularly young women, chose to have both breasts removed."

The results reported in the Journal of Clinical Oncology, derived from a study of 51,030 women with unilateral DCIS. A total of 2072 women chose breast removal surgery for cancer, the report shows.

Of all surgical patients, the contra-lateral mastectomy increased from 2.1 percent to 5.2 percent (148 percent) between 1998 and 2005.

Causes and Symptoms of Influenza

The virus is spread by infected people coughing or sneezing. Most often, outbreaks occur in winter, when people tend to remain inside and are in close proximity to one another.
Symptoms, sudden onset of chills and fever (usually between 101`F and 104`F). Muscle aches; headache. Dry cough; sore throat and hoarseness. Loss of appetite. Nasal congestion or runny nasal discharge and chest pain.
The diagnosis is usually self evident from symptoms; however, rapid diagnostic tests as well as a viral culture can be very useful.

Information and knowledge about alternative influenza - prevention and cure just follow the link below:
The cure within one minute

PREVENTION AND TREATMENT FOR INFLUENZA
Influenza, commonly known as the flu, is a highly contagious viral infection of the respiratory tract. Often occurring as an epidemic, the flu results from three kinds of orthomyxoviruses: influenzae types A, B, and C. Type A viruses tend to be the most virulent, and constantly mutate into new strains, making permanent immunization against them difficult. Type A influenza is most often responsible for large epidemics. The type B virus, generally a less severe variety, mutates occasionally, causing smaller, more localized outbreaks. Type C, which causes only mild illness resembling a common cold, is very stable virus. During an initial bout with a type C infection, the body produces antibodies that confer immunity against future infections. Symptoms of all types of influenza usually appear following an incubation period of one to four days after initial exposure, and run their course over a period of seven to 10 days. The elderly, the very young, and the chronically ill are at increased risk of potentially serious complications such as bacterial bronchitis and pneumonia.

Prevention

A yearly flu vaccination is recommended for people at high risk of developing complications, including those with chronic heart or kidney disease; chronic lung disease (including asthma, emphysema, chronic bronchitis, tuberculosis, or cystic fibrosis); diabetes mellitus or other chronic metabolic disorder; severe anemia; and depressed immunity due to diseases such as AIDS or medical treatments such as chemotherapy for cancer. Women who will be in the 2nd or 3rd trimester of pregnancy during influenza season. Health care workers and people over age 50 or who live in a nursing facility are also at heightened risk. The vaccine should be administered before the start of flu season, between October 1 and the middle of November. Avoid close contact with those who are infected. Amantadine or rimantadine may be prescribed by a physician during local influenza epidemics, to be taken daily if high – risk patients have not been immunized for that year.

The Treatment
Get plenty of bed rest, preferably in a warm, well-ventilated room. Take over the counter pain relievers to ease aches and reduce fever. Drink plenty of fluids to keep mucus secretions thin and easy to expel. Drink warm liquids or gargle with salt water to alleviate sore throat. A cool mist humidifier may help to thin mucus. For the elderly or those with a serious chronic illness, the antiviral drugs amantadine or rimantadine may help reduce the severity of symptoms from type A infections, if administered within 24hours of onset. Zanamivir or oseltamivir can be used to treat type A and type B infections. To be more balance in our approach we have to explore the alternative influenza – prevention and treatment. The recommendations are you have to consume plenty of fluids, especially fresh juices, herbal teas, soups and quality water, to prevent dehydration and help flush out the body.
