National Cancer Institute (NCI)

Cancer Institutes

Established under the National Cancer Institute Act of 1937, it is the major agency of the Federal government, for research and training. It works in harmony with National Cancer Program which implements and supports:

To achieve the goals, this institute supports the projects for cancer research carried out by universities, foundations, hospitals and various research leaders in this field. Besides, it has its own state-of-the-art laboratories where it conducts research on advanced level.


Cancer Institute NSW


It was formed in July 2003 through Cancer Institute (NSW) Act2003 to reduce the incidence of cancer in New South Wales (NSW). Its aim is to work for the complete eradication of cancer through partnership with:

Researchers

It has well attained all its aims and made considerable achievements such as: 


Doubled the number of clinical trials participants between 2004 and 2009. Previously these were 1,054 and now 2,007.
A five percent decrease in smoking that is 22.3 per cent to 17.2 per cent since 2003.
Over 63,000 additional women now get breast screening tests since 2005.
About 75 percent increase in the funding amount for cancer research from 2004 to 2009, with an investment of over $236 million in during 2007 to 2009.
It released NSW Cancer Plan 2011-15 in November 2010. This is a highly considered document which will help design cancer control program in the coming five years.
Institute for Cancer Research (ICR)


It was initially established as a small research department of the Royal Marsden Hospital in 1909. Today it stands out to be one of the world's oldest leading independent cancer research forces. Their mission is to completely liberate the society of cancer, a malignant fatal disease of all times. They are striving hard to soothe distressed humanity by eradicating this serious problem through:

UCL Cancer Institute


Located in the heart of UCL (University of Central London) campus, it has one of the most eminent biomedical faculties in the entire Europe. Their aim is: 


To conduct cancer research of international standards for the purpose of discovering new strategies to diagnose, prevent, cure and monitor human cancer.
To establish and promote links with partner hospitals and do further genetic studies.
Train oncologists, cancer researchers, experts and scientists to make more advancement is this field

Dana-Farber Cancer Institute


It was founded in 1947 and is committed to provide cancer patients with the best treatment available to have a higher survival rate. Their mission is:
