A survey conducted by National Cancer Institute in 1991 found that 42% of American eats less than two servings per day. Vitamin D is important in regulating the balance between calcium and phosphorus in our body tissues, including the kidneys, intestines, parathyroid, and bones. One recent study concluded that women taking calcium and vitamin D supplement had 60% lower incidence of all cancers than women not taking the supplement. The foods contain vitamin D are: Tuna, mackerels, cod liver oil, sardines, smaller amounts are available in eggs, beef liver, and Swiss cheese. Only significant food source of a vitamin D is in fortified milk. It's important to recognize that the vitamin D requires adequate calcium and phosphorus in take as well. Most of your vitamin D is produce by sunlight absorption by your skin. Because of fear of skin cancer, we protect our skin by lathering on sunscreen. The sunscreen blocks the vitamin D which causes our deficiency. So in order to get enough we have to take supplements. According to Anthony Norman, international expert on vitamin D, published a paper in August 2008, he listed 36 organs tissues that respond biologically to vitamin D and which may affect negatively to the decencies. The list includes bone marrow breast, colon, intestine, kidney, lung, prostate, retina, skin, stomach, and uterus.
